ABOUT CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65

California's Proposition 65 requires that a clear and reasonable warning be provided prior to exposing individuals in California to chemicals and substances that are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm, including wood dust. The information and warning below will allow you to make an informed purchasing decision and appropriately protect yourself when using Fortress composite decking, railing, and cladding.

Fortress composite decking, railing, and cladding are bamboo-polyethylene composites, but may contain trace amounts of wood. Bamboo is a species of grass and is chemically different to wood, but Fortress Building Products recommends that precautions and warnings which apply to wood dust should be applied equally to bamboo dust. Fortress composite decking, railing, and cladding may contain trace amounts of other chemicals that are on the Proposition 65 chemicals list depending on the product and colour. Therefore Fortress composite products are sold with the following warning:

WARNING: Drilling, sawing, sanding or machining wood products generates wood dust and other substances known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Fortress Composite products DO NOT contain wood dust, still, we recommend the installer avoid inhaling dust of any kind or use a dust mask or other safeguards for personal protection.
